Death is more universal than life, everyone dies but not everyone lives. A. Sachs

EULOGY OF THE LATE DAVID MAC-ATTOH

Friends, the light has gone out of our lives temporarily and there is darkness everywhere. For words, remain practically inadequate to express the impact of our father eternal absence. Daddy, papay, Uncle Boye, Uncle Mac, Special as we called him, the fulcrum of our family is no more.

For us, we know our Daddy to be very compassionate. On countless occasions, he told us repeatedly that the only wealth he had for us was to give us the best of education.
Approximately, he used more than 85% of his earnings to send us to highly rated schools such as St. Patrick, St. Mary, Monrovia College, and AME Zion Academy. He saw to it that those of us who had the impetus for higher education reached our zenith by getting us enrolled at the University of Liberia. Today three of his children are proud graduates and still pursuing higher education.

Realizing that the unity of the family must be kept intact, he ensured that every one of us was accorded a fair treatment within the reach of his limited resources because we are all “sailing in the same boat”, as he always said.
Yes, indeed, he was the Captain of our vessel, never reneging on his role to safely land his crew.

In sickness, he did not abandon us, neither in the fourteen years of civil strife. Abraham can attest to the care of his father when he broke his fingers , Daniel can attest to the love and care of his father when he was down with malaria, Catherine can attest to the care and love of her father when she was abandoned and written off from planet earth or Matilda who was born premature.
On all these occasions, his compassionate and devotional love for us all revived and energized us to be alive today. His life was so sweet and cherished.

In as much as he did all within the legal means to give us the decency of life speak-able through education, he was an ardent believer of the Scripture.  Proverb 22: 15, which Reads: "foolishness abounds in the heart of a child but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him". He did not spare us the punishment we deserved when we went wrong.  His love was circumscribed by moral guidance in order to ensure that we live right and walk in harmony with our neighbors.

David Mac- Attoh, the working man
At an early age, he attended the Monrovia  Demonstration School on Clay Street. He later enrolled at the Monrovia College  and Industrial Training School and finally matriculated to the Booker Washington Institution where he graduated with a Technical Diploma in Industrial Mechanic in 1964.  Before graduation, he did his industrial attachment with the National Port Authority where the late Jonathan B. Sancho supervised him. On account from the late Sancho who also became our neighbor, he said in cleared terms that our father demonstrated a high degree of respect, diligent and technical agility for which he earned high marks among his colleagues.

Upon graduation, our father was employed with the Public Utility Authority (P U A) in 1965, which is now the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC). Through his useful years and until his demise he labored assiduously with the Liberia Electricity Corporation. As he grew up in age and experience, so also he grew up in ranks. Among the many capacities, he served: Mechanic, Assistant Supervisor, and Superintendent and the list go on. As he was promoted from one position to another, he performed with utmost care and precision, justifying the confidence reposed in him. He leave behind a legacy stainless of any corruptible trace, enviable by a nation crowded with corruption. He demonstrated his patriotism and love for country for 40 unbroken years.
The late David Mac-Attoh came as an offspring of the late  K. Solomon McCauley and Mary Marley on May 23, 1942. He was a baptized and confirmed member of the Trinity Cathedral Episcopal Church and a resident of SayonTown for more than 35 years.

As time draws close to the Anniversary of your demise, Daddy, permit us to say good-bye again. Recognizing the Scripture of Ecclesiastes 3, we invariably believe that the morning of Nov. 11, 2006 was your day to bid us eternal goodbye. We recognize with undying memory the harsh reality that this fateful day of your departure has imposed upon us. Even though we are, weeping and mourning but we remain equally confident that on resurrection morning when souls and bones are reunited we will again be reunited with the one that we so dearly love. Oh! What a great big family reunion.

Daddy rest on, like the Apostle Paul wrote in his Epistle, we say to you today that you have live and fought a good fight. Even though, the stakes were high, you stood the test of time and have won for yourself a trophy in the heavenly realms.
Daddy your trumpet has summoned us again, not to be divided but a call to bear the burden of togetherness.
As he successfully concluded the fouth journey of his passing, he leaves to mourn our three mothers, Massa zota Attoh, Majurnah Conneh and Eva Walker Kollie who also just passed, ten children, Daniel, Sesie, Amelia, Abraham, Augustine, Prince, Matalda, Catherine, Joel and Hilton; nine grand-children, Nana Kwame, Nana Kojo, David,  Prince, Richelieu, Archie, Mike; Four Foster sons, Larry Kerkula Jonquaye, Andrew Ellis, Wilfred Wesseh Sunday and Thomas Gonkerwon, a host of brothers, nephews, nieces, cousins inclusive but not limited to Daniel O. Attoh, Dr. Prince Attoh,  William Attoh, Laude N. Attoh, C. Clearance Massaquoi, Matilda Attoh, Massa Neufville, Jane Attoh and a host of friends and admirers in Liberia, Ghana, the USA and other parts of the World.

Eternal peace grants you unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost, Amen.
